As masks slipped in places, and the tunes were high,
the play took off with a contended sigh.
Said masks never slipped, expressions never askew,
tears streamed down and sniffling were a few.
Breath short, sweat trickling, nevertheless grinning,
a crescendo of applause
that took down the hall
was heard far beyond and without a pause,
the performera standing there with grace, and tall.
However the scene backstage was just as dramatic.
Eyes which shone on the stage, were now traumatic;
The audience thought the happy ending was the end
but the real struggle has merely just begun.
Exhausted and worn out but they still had a lot of work
The show was housefull, then why did the moneylender smirk?
"Oh, the house was full alright,
but your budget was more uptight.
You bit off more than you could swallow
now you've got my command to follow"
"You shall return my money within a fortnight,
trust my word, you're in no position to fight.
You beg, you steal, I don't really care,
Interest should be increased that's only fair."
If only the drama would've ended on the stage,
the artists wouldn't feel like they're bound within a cage.
A situation so vile, that their souls were curled,
their hardwork and struggle was ignored by the world.
If only the drama would've ended on the stage,
settling their lives wouldn't have taken an age.
Unknown faces but for more talented by the known,
trying to fetch a crowd and burdened under a loan.
Luck didn't play its part as good as they had theirs
but life is a game and it has many players.
They couldn't find a place to perform, but wrote dialogues page after page.
Their faces remained unknown, but they concealed their rage.
Their loss was theirs but more loss was of the stage.
If only the drama would've ended on the stage,
they could've brought a revolution, a new era, a new age
