Let's Zoom Into The Theatre

Shubham Yadav

The theater is a form of art that expresses or narrates stories through the collective channels of acting, music, lights, etc. in front of a live audience. The live audience is something that differentiates theatre from movies apart from the way it’s made.

Not going in technicalities but, like any other story, plays in theater begin from a stasis, go through some conflicts and reach a new stasis. That is quite similar to the story of theater in the pandemic. The initial stasis was the one when the audience was physically there to get the experience. Now the theater is going through the conflict or you can say on the conflict and the conflict is called Virtual Theater.

In theater, you can’t restrict the audience to watch the entire play with the same angle. Basically, unlike movies, you can’t control what the audience is watching. Technically, the plays performed on a virtual medium are also performed in front of a live audience but the view is controlled.

Apart from the audience perspective, the artists have adapted to the virtual medium really fast and immersive plays are the example of the same. Till the time theater goes through this conflict to reach a new stasis one thing is quite clear that you can never restrict the art till there are artists to perform it and the more you restrict the artist the better you will experience the art.
